At voco Oxford Thames, thirty acres of gardens run down to the river, and that’s where most of your day is spent. You marry at a garden pavilion by the water, and for the group photo the hotel lets us up to an upstairs window, with everyone gathered on the lawn below. You end up with a picture where every single face can be seen.

For couple portraits there’s a meadow that turns gold on a summer evening, mature trees and a hedge-lined path, with open Oxfordshire countryside behind.

Inside, the Oxford Suite has a huge skylight that fills the room with daylight for the meal and the speeches. Towards dusk, head back out to the pavilion for a few minutes while the evening light by the river is soft, and then it’s back inside for the dancing.
