Villiers Hotel

Look straight down the spiral staircase at Villiers and you have one of the best frames the place offers, the two of you tiny at the bottom of it. That’s the kind of venue this is: a town-centre Buckinghamshire hotel where the pictures come out of the building’s own quirks rather than acres of grounds. The rooms have decent window light, there’s a corridor hung with pictures, and tall Crittall windows with a red rail to lean on. The red-carpeted entrance steps take the whole wedding party, and the Old Town Hall across the way gives you red brick and more steps for the group. There’s no garden here, which sounds like a problem and isn’t. A short walk gets you to a riverside park with a wooden footbridge, weeping willows and wildflower grass, and that ten minutes is where the soft green couple portraits come from. Back inside, the party runs under a mirror ball and the bar sees the rest of it out.
