Nether Winchendon House

The drive is the first picture at Nether Winchendon House in Buckinghamshire. It’s long and tree-lined, running between stone gate piers, and standing you between those piers with a veil going sideways in the wind is a frame we come back for. Spring is the season to want here, because wild daffodils come up through the orchard and across the grounds, so we walk you into colour rather than hunting for it. The house takes the group shot, crenellated and odd-looking in the best way, with lawn in front of it wide enough for everybody. Couples marry at the village church a short walk off, panelled inside beneath carved heraldic shields, then come back through the gardens. The white iron footbridge over the water is the quiet one: ornate, narrow, and it holds just the two of you with nothing else in the frame. Dinner and dancing go in the timber-beamed hall, which warms up nicely under lighting. Old stone steps and an iron railing fill the gaps in between.
