The Mandolay Hotel

You don’t expect to find a private garden in the middle of Guildford, but the Mandolay Hotel has one. Just outside the reception there’s a wooden arbour, a wrought-iron gate and tall hedges, all within thirty seconds of the dance floor. The couple portraits look like a Surrey garden rather than a town-centre hotel, and the confetti is out there too.

Inside, there’s a choice of suites, including an oak-panelled one for smaller weddings, and the ceremony room is neutral enough not to clash with whatever colours you choose. If it rains, the chandelier-lit staircase is the place for portraits, and it’s a good spot late in the evening too. There’s proper room for a dance floor, and the suites look great with uplighting.
