The wisteria pergola with the bench under it is where we’d finish your day at Leigh Park. It faces the right way for the end of the afternoon, so late sun comes through the Wiltshire trees behind it and you get a portrait that’s warm without us adding a thing. Before that, the columned entrance with clipped bays either side is the strongest piece of the building, and it works for a bridal portrait in the morning and for your family groups later on. Couples often marry at a church nearby and come straight back here. The lawn is wide, flat and open enough to hold every guest with the honey-stone front behind them, and big enough that people end up playing football on it between courses. A stone archway under a tree and a spreading tree in the grounds cover the quieter frames. Inside, the conservatory restaurant and the reception suite both look over the gardens, so daylight carries the speeches, and the evening runs on coloured light and dry ice.
