Grim's Dyke Hotel

Grim’s Dyke Hotel has a panelled ceremony hall under a painted vaulted ceiling, with arched leaded windows and a great carved fireplace. It doesn’t need much added, and the same fireplace is behind you again later for the speeches.

In the gardens, a path lined with roses and lavender gives you four or five different portraits in ten minutes, with colour on both sides. Close by, stone steps run up between tall clipped yews, which frame you closely and look nothing like anywhere else in this corner of London. The lawns are wide enough to photograph every guest from above, with the timbered house behind them.

At night, the house is lit up and the stained glass shines from inside, and that’s the moment for a last portrait outside.
