Wedding ยท Harrow Weald, London
Grim's Dyke Hotel
Roses and lavender line a path through the gardens at Grim’s Dyke, and ten minutes of walking it buys you four or five completely different portraits: colour either side, scent everyone comments on, and no need for us to pose you, because you’re both busy looking at it. Close by there are stone steps running up between tall clipped yews, which frame the two of you tightly and look nothing like anywhere else in this corner of London. The ceremony hall is panelled under a painted vaulted ceiling, with arched leaded windows and a great carved fireplace, so the room carries the pictures on its own and we add nothing to it. That same fireplace sits behind the speeches later. The lawns are wide enough to shoot every guest from above with the timbered house behind them. After dark the facade floodlights, the stained glass glows from the inside, and standing in the lit arched doorway gives you a portrait we barely have to do anything for.
