Getting ready at Eynsham Hall is a treat, in rooms with gilded peacock wallpaper, a marble fireplace and tall windows with the sun coming across the sill, so there’s real character behind the dress.

If you marry at the parish church, the house is an easy place to come back to, with a tree-lined drive and wide stone steps at the front that fit the whole guest list on three levels, so nobody at the back gets hidden. The formal gardens suit portraits, with clipped topiary, gravel paths, a balustraded stone staircase and a big cedar.

Dinner and dancing take place in oak-panelled rooms, with a carved fireplace behind the speeches. Then the floodlights turn the house amber, and it’s well worth going back out for a photo in front of it.
