Heythrop Park

Heythrop Park - wedding photography

People bring cars to Heythrop Park, and the forecourt is why. It’s gravel, it’s wide, with the columned front of the Oxfordshire house right behind it, so a Ferrari, a line of Rolls-Royces and a pair of dhol drummers all fit in one frame without anything looking crowded. This is a place built for the big ones, and your guest list can run to hundreds without the rooms feeling full. The lobby is arched and columned with lamps burning beside the sofas, the staircase is wide enough to carry the bride down under a garland runner, and the panelled, papered rooms hold the colour in heavily embroidered outfits instead of flattening it. The nikah happened by an ornate fireplace, in a small warm room after all that space, and it stays quiet and close. The glass marquee seats several hundred with a flower-wall stage in front of them, and the lawns take a family group of a hundred in one line. After dark the whole facade is floodlit, so you get the house lit behind you and nothing of ours in front, and fireworks over the parkland is how the night finishes.
