The Crown & Thistle

The Crown & Thistle sits right in the middle of Abingdon, around a cobbled courtyard with old wisteria overhead. The bedrooms are good for getting ready in, too, with bold wallpaper, antiques and a roll-top bath, so there’s plenty of character in the morning photos.

The ceremony is in the Barn next to the courtyard, with stone walls and timber overhead, and the same room is used for dinner and for the dancing once the coloured lighting comes up. Between the two, everyone gathers in the courtyard for drinks and photos.

Being in the middle of town doesn’t limit you, either. With twenty minutes to spare, we can walk you round to the abbey ruins and the meadows, where stone arches, worn steps and old garden greenery make a real change from the inn you’ve just left.
