Chicheley Hall

Your morning at Chicheley Hall is in bedrooms with tall sash windows, which is where the dress hangs. Then the walk into the ceremony starts at the top of the staircase, under a crystal chandelier, with the marble-columned hall opening out below. You marry in that hall, where double-height windows keep the room bright, so the walk down makes a picture of its own.

Afterwards, every guest lines up across the lawn in front of the red-brick house. Then the grounds open up. There’s a tree-lined avenue that turns gold in the autumn, cedars you can stand right under and a stone archway, and further out, a raised brick path through the formal garden and a lake with the whole house reflected in it.

After dinner, come back to the staircase for a couple more portraits, and try to save the last of the sun for the avenue.
