Cantley House Hotel

The barn at Cantley House in Berkshire has bare timbers going right up, festoon lights slung across them and a floor that fills the moment the music starts, so the party frames have height and warmth in them instead of a flat white ceiling. Earlier on you get the red-brick front of the house, which is the confetti spot, with enough lawn either side that we can arrange every guest into a heart and shoot it from above. The bedrooms are bright and the dress hangs in a balcony doorway with light coming straight through it. Ceremony here was indoors under a blossom arch, though the gardens are licensed too. Give us fifteen minutes outside and you’ll come back with three different backdrops: a white summerhouse, a rose arch, and a copper beech big enough to fit both of you underneath. Then stay until the house lights come on, because that doorway glows warm and the two of you standing in it needs nothing else from us.
